What changed is the product. Modern non-woven papers hang cleanly and come down in full sheets. Digital printing made short-run artist designs possible. And homeowners got tired of rooms that looked like everyone else's.

Pattern is personal. It is the fastest way to make a room feel like a decision instead of a default.
